THEATRE ROYAL.
The management of the theatre are to bo congratulated on the change for the better in the shape of pieces presented last evening. Discarding the transpontine species of drama which daring the past week has formed so conspicuous an item in their bill of fare, the drama of “ Lucrezia Borgia ” was given as a first piece last night. In the title role Mrs Welter Hill played most powerfully, her rendition of the character being marked with much artistic skill. She was deservedly applauded for the admirable manner in which throughout the character was sustained. Miss Arethusa May had not a great deal to do in the part of the Rrincoss Neponi, except to look pretty, in which she succeeded. Mr Burford played Qennaro with his accustomed care and finish, and Mr Musgrave made a good deal of the part of Gubetta. Mr Clinton as the Duke was good, and the other characters wore well sustained. The afterpiece was “ His Last Legs,” in which Mr J. J. Kennedy was capital as O’Oallaghan, and Miss Bessie Vivian as Mrs Montague played with much spirit. The other parts were well filled. To-night “ East Lynne ” is announced.
