PAPANUI TOWN HALL.

A meeting of pertons interested in the erection of a town hall at Papanui was held last evening m St. Paul s schoolroom, the Hev. F. Q. Britten in the chair. There was a large attendance, comarising the moat prominent settlers in the district. On the motion of Mr J. T. Matson, seconded by Mr Amyes, it was resolved, “ That the want of a large room suitable for public meetings, entertainments, &c , having been long felt in this suburb, it is resolved that a public hall be erected on a site within the district.” Mr Joynt moved, and Mr Barlow seconded, and it was carried unanimously, “ That a committee of seven persons be elected to select a suitable site, and to report to a meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 17th, also to consider the amount of capital required, and the mode of raising the same.” It was decided, on the motion of Mr Joynt, seconded by Mr Briggs, that the following gentlemen bo elected a committee to receive offers of sites, and report to a meeting to be held on Tuesday, August 17th :—Messrs J. T. Matson, W. Norman, J. Jackson, R. M. Orcsswell, O. Amyes, T. I. Joynt, and O. IS. Briggs.” A meeting of the committee was held after the public meeting adjourned, when Mr J. T. Matson was elected chairman, and Mr G. Moon was requested to act as interim secretary. It was further resolved to advertise for tenders for sites forthwith.
