WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

At the monthly meeting of this Board, held in the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chamber on Monday, the 2nd of August, there were present Messrs Blackwell (chairman), Moore, Denton, Wearing, and Parnham. The chairman reported having had the clearing of willow stumps from the river carried out. Mr Moore drew attention to a shoal spit forming opposite Mr Holland’s. He also asked if a Harbor Bill affecting tho Board was to be presented to tho General Assembly. The chairman replied that the Bill had been sent on its way till a more convenient season. Mr Denton inquired if anything further had been done to make the railway siding to the river. Tho chairman stated that it had not proceeded further than that the Minister of Works had promised it. Mr Wearing asked if any letter had been sent to the Government asking to have tho control of tho pilot transferred to the Board. The chairman said he bad spoken to the pilot about the matter, and to a captain of a vessel, and the latter had contradicted a statement by Mr Dnnsford. The pilot was willing at all times to give assistance to vessels in or out. He was afraid that if the Board took over the pilot it would also have to pay him, which it was not in a position to do, so that the matter had better be left alone. On the motion of Mr Wearing, seconded by Mr Moore, it was decided that an application made by Messrs Langdown and Co. for leave to use wharf and landing place on the river be granted, on payment of a weekly rent of £a. The Board then adjourned.
