CANTERBURY SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
I The usual monthly meeting of the above was I held on Monday evening last, in the vestry of Trinity Church. The following schools were represented ; —Sydenham and Oxford terrace (Baptist), Durham street (Wesleyan),Montreal street (Presbyterian), Phillips Town and Manchester street (Congregational), Bingsland (Free Methodist), Cambridge terrace (Primitive Methodist). The president occupied the chair. Correspondence was read from the Rev. A. Blake, asking that the Presbyterian Sunday School, Prebbleton, m : ght be admitted to the Union ; also, applying for the use of the lantern. The school was admitted to the Union, and the use of lantern granted. A letter was also read from the editor of the “Christian Record.” The matter was left in the hands of the delegates of the various schools to lay before the teachers’ meeting. It was resolved that the officers of the Union, with the superintendents and secretaries of all schools in Christchurch should form a committee to arrange for a public demonstration in connection with the centenary during the summer. Air Glanvill’s name was added to the rules committee, in place of Mr W. S. Taylor. Tho president asked the secretaries
to retire, and in their absence suggested that the committee should acknowledge the valuable services of Messrs J. Higgins and H. Peake. Several members having spoken at length npon the amount of work done during the centenary celebration, an honorarium of £lO was unanimously voted to Mr J. Higgins, also one of £5 to Mr H. Pes e, whose duties had not been so arduous as those Of his colleague. There being no other business the meeting closed with prayer.
