ASHBURTON LIBRARY.
An entertainment in aid of the funds of the Ashburton Library was held in the Town Hall, Ashburton, last Thursday evening, and passed off very successfully. There was a very fair attendance, and judging from the frequency of the applause the audience were highly pleased. The entertainment consisted of songs, glees, readings., and recitations, and the following are the names of those who took part in it: — Mesdames Dunn and Craighead, Miss Permain, Messrs Dunn, Gates, Craighead, Rowe, Twomey, and the Rev. Mr Beattie. Mr Ward, president of the library, occupied the chair, and after thanking the audience for their attendance announced that a similar entertainment would soon be held again for the purpose of liquidating the debt of the library.
