Mr De Lantour has introduced the Education Reserves Act Amendment Bill, which provides as follows :—School Commissioners may classify any of the education reserves, or a portion thereof, if proclaimed a reserve, or portioned for primary education, in the manner provided by section 38 of the Land Act, 1877, and may classify any portions of such reserves being rural land as agricultural and pastoral land respectively aa provided in the said Act. The Governor may from time to time let a part or any portion of the education reserves for primary education being agricultural lands, as lands which may he dealt with aa Crown lands. Any portions of the education reserves for primary education so sot apart shall be deemed to be Crown lands, and may be sold, leased or otherwise disposed of in terms of the laws regulating the disposition of Crown lands for the time being in force in the provincial districts in which such lands are situate. The net proceeds of all lands sold, leased or otherwise disposed of shall bo paid to the School Commissioners in the provincial district, to be invested in Government debentures or other securities, subject to the conditions under which the lands were originally vested in the commissioners as education reserves. All revenue derived from runs so invested shall be disposed of as provided by the Education Reserves Act, 1877. The powers conferred upon School Commissioners by section 14 of the Education Reserves Act, 1877, shall only bo exercised in the case of lands which have been classified as consisting wholly of pastoral lands. Nothing in this Act shall affect, limit, or impair any transaction that the School Commissioners have lawfully done in their capacity as commissioners. The Public Accounts Committee will report that the £BOO was rightly paid to Messrs Izard and Bell, solicitors, on account of costs in the " Waka Maori ” libel case.
