GEBBIE'S VALLEY CHURCH.

A tea and entertainment in aid of the above church, were given in the schoolroom on Wednesday, the 21st inst. Tableß were provided by Mesdames Wheeler, Bheppard, G. Battler, Beeves, Loney, Gebbie and Harper. The room was tastefully decorated with ferns and evergreens, and when the tables were spread it presented a very pleasing spectacle, and reflected the greatest credit on those concerned. After the large audience had amply partaken of the good things provided, and the room having been cleared, the entertainment was proceeded with, the Bev. E. H. Wyatt presiding. The following ladies and gentlemen took part:— Mrs Willis, Misses Blatchford, Beeve, Manson and Moffet ; Messrs Tanner, Brake, Wheeler, Wyatt, Gascoyno, Dance, and S. Buttler. Little Miss Emma Wheeler sang " Little Buttercup " very nicely. Mr Tanner's choir rendered a few choruses in an able manner, and contributed greatly to the success of the entertainment. The school ohildren also sang time glees. Mr John Q-ebbie, treasurer, gave a detailed account of the liabilities which had been incurred in connection with the church. This showed that there was yet a balance of £35 owing to himself, and 'he astonished and delighted his hearers by saying that he had great pleasure in announcing to them that the olrarch was no longer in debt, for what was not oleared off by this entertainment he would make a present of. This act of generosity so took the audience by storm, that, on the invitation of Mr Wyatt, three deafening cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Gebbie. The proceeds amounted to £l6, leaving a balance of £l9, which Mr Gebbie has thuß presented to the church. Cordial votes of thanks were passed to the ladies who provided tea, to all those who took part in the entertainment, and to ths ohairman. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant meeting to a close.
