DRAINAGE BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Board was held in the offices, Hereford street, yesterday afternoon, at half-post two o clock. Present—Mr B. J. 8. Harman (chairman), and Messrs Hobbs, Duncan, Blakiston, Tancred, Boas, and Brown. _ The Chairman stated that it would bo necessary to hold another meeting on Monday next, to formally strike the rate for the year, of which notice had been given, so it was proposed to adjourn after disposing of the formal business. Mr Duncan then brought up the report of the Sandhills Reserves Committee, which was raad ee follows; — .... , We have the honor to report that we nave inspected the reserves on the Sandhills belonging to the Drainage Board. Mr C. Cuff, whose freehold adjoins the reserves, kindly accompanied ns, and po'ntod out the boundaries. We find that where the pipes will discharge, the Sandhills are more broken than in other portions of the reserves, which will necessitate some levelling being done previous to the sewage being discharged there. The representatives of the late Hitchen own a twenty-acre section, the extreme half of which runs into the reserve, and as this will take a large quantity of fencing, to be paid for jointly, it might be of advantage to enter into negotiations for the purchase of the ten acres in question, the price of which we considered should not exceed per acre. We have indicated that portion which we recommend should be fenced in first, and within the fenced portion several rows of the Maritime and Insignia pines should be planted, which would give shelter from the north-east and north-west. The report was adopted, and the chairman authorised to carry out its recommendations ; also it was resolved that the fencing and planting bo proceeded with at once. The Chairman brought up the report of the sub-committee appointed to agree to the schedule defining the proposed Sydenham district. The report was agreed to, Mr J. B. Brown dissenting. The following accounts were passed—Doan account, £428 16»; rate account, £lO3 9s Id. The chairman was requested to make further inquiries into the question of the disposal of surplus earth. The Board then adjourned till Monday the Sad Inst.
