BENEVOLENT AID ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee was held at 2 pm. yesterday. Present— His Worth p the Mayor, in the chair. Messrs Oilivier Hargreaves, Mitchell (Hon. Sec.), Pratt, and Eosowame. Ine Mayor reported having received £l4 as donations since the last list was advertised. He had received liberal discounts from the various tradespeople rendering accounts for goods, ic. The amount at the credit of the Association at the Bank was £2ll 5s 7d; accounts paid since, £9O 4s 4d; leaving a balance of £l2l Is 3d. Accounts to tks amount of £36 13s 4d, were passed for payment. The caretaker’s report was read. He stated that since the 10th donations had been received as follows :—Mr Bums, a quantity of muffins and cakes; Mr John King, 2Sib sp.it peas ; Anonymous, eleven flannel petticoats ; Messrs Bosewame, Hopkins, Culliford, Hall, and Cousins, had sent as usual ample supplies of meat, Ac., and Mr Rosewarne had also sent meat for the house. Prom the 17th to 24th July the relief given was as follows :—Goals, 39 bags ; potatoes, 17i do; flannels, 80 yds ; blankets, 17 pairs; single do, 10; rice, 21b; oatmeal, 66ib ; sago, 211 b ; flou', 691 b ; boots 6 pairs; flannel petticoats, 4; a quantity of
"bread, and some clothing. The relief in soup had been an follows daring fire days :—Tuesday, 106 basins and 12 billies ; Wednesday, 93 basins, 13 billies; Xhureday 114 basins, 17 billies ; Friday 104 basins, 16 billies ; Saturday 126 basins, 14 billies—total 543 basins, 72 billies, the average being 108 basins per day and three over. The number relieved for the week had been—first relief, 23; second do., 27 ; third do, 11; fourth do., 3 ; fifth do., I—total 65. The donations found in the box were reported as being 9s 6Jd. The Mayor said that it must bo clear, from the caretaker’s report, that relief was as much sought after now as at first. Ho felt certain that the members of the committee would feel glad if the relief were not needed. It had appeared in one of the evening journals that the relief might be stopped, but he felt sure that it was not so. Mr Ollivier said he desired to point out that donations of cast-off clothing, both for men and women, were much required, and he trusted the public would come forward and help the committee in this matter. It was resolved to procure some more blankets. A case in which complaint was made that work at Albury did not afford food was referred to Mr Austin for explanation. The committee acknowledged with thanks the receipt of a trunk of boots from "MV W. Harris, which was moat acceptable. The committee then adjourned.
