The Australian ElevenThe match between the Australians and the Yorkshire County team was commenced to-day at Huddersfield. The Home team went in first, and were all out for 78 runs. In the first innings of the Australians they lost three wickets for 145 runs. Groube was not out for 50 runs. The bowling of the Australians was dead on the wicket. The weather was very fine throughout tho day. Shipping. Arrived—British Empire, from Lyttelton. LONDON, July 23. Earthquake. Another very severe earthquake was experienced at Manilla on Wednesday last, by which further heavy damage was done to the city. BERLIN, July 21. Germans in Turkey. The Ameership of AfghanistanNews has been received from Cabul that an interview has boon arranged between General Stewart and AbdurRalnnan Khan, when the question of the latter's acceptance of the Ameership of Afghanistan will be discussed. The Abandonment of CabalThe work of demolition of the British forts at Cabul having commenced, the British troops have formed a camp near the city, where they will remain for tho present.
Ayoub KhanImportant intelligence has been received from Candahar relating to the movements of Ayoub Khan, who was recently reported to have left Herat with, a large force, with the intention of attacking Candahar and wresting it from Shere Ali, the newly appointed ruler. It is now known that Ayoub is continuing his advance, and it is expected that he will shortly attack the British camp at Grishk, on the road to Candahar, whither the British troops were despatched tosupport Shere Ali. There is great excitement amongst the Candahar tribes owing to the continued advance of Ayoub Khan.
