FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ ASSOCIATION.

The adjourned meeting of the sub-committee appointed to consider the constitution of the proposed friendly association was held last nigbt in the lodge room of the Avon Lodge. Present—Messrs Parry and Borland (1.0.0. E., M.U.), Gapes and Buckley (A.0.F.), Nathan and Hurst (A.0.D.), Lezard and Hart (1.0.0. F., A.C.) Mr Lezard was voted to the chair. The meeting then proceeded to consider the point raised at the preceding meeting, viz., whether the association should be composed of individual members paving a small fee for membership, or delegates from lodges and courts. Mr Lezard vacated the chair aud moved the following resolution : “ That the membership of the association shall be open to all financial members of any registered friendly society.” Mr Hart seconded the motion. After considerable discussion, Mr Nathan moved, as an amendment, “ That the association be formed of delegates from each court and lodge, elected annually.” Mr Borland seconded the amendment. A lengthy discussion ensued, each delegate speaking on the subject. On the amendment being put it was negatived by five to two. Mr Nathan then moved as a further amendment—- “ That the association be formed of delegates and subscribing members.” Mr Borland seconded this. After some further discussion it was suggested that the difficulty might be met by adding, after the words “any registered friendly society ” in the motion, the following :—“ And that all presiding officers of Courts and lodges bo ex officio members of the association.” Mr Nathan withdrew his amendment, and the resolution as amended was put and carried unanimously. The meeting then proceeded to discuss the proposed constitution clause by clause, and adopted it for presentation to the adjourned meeting of the delegates on Thursday next at the Foresters’ Hell.
