Tho Australian cricketers commenced a match, to-day against Eighteen of the Crystal Palace Club, on tho Palace ground. There was a large attendance of the public, and the weather was fine throughout the day. The Australians went in first, and put together 155 runs before the last wicket fell. Blackham was the highest scorer with 49, and was given out leg before wicket. The Palace Eighteen then commenced their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had scored 44 without tho loss of a wicket. New Zealand LoansFive Per Cent. New Zealand 10-40 Loan, 104; Five Per Cent. New Zealand Loan, 1889, 107, Shipping. The Orient Company’s steamer Aconcagua arrived at Plymouth yesterday. Bank News The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank pays a 4 per cent, dividend for tho half year, and carries forward £6OOO to the reserve fund. LONDON, July 20. Legislation for IrelandThe Bill introduced by Government for granting compensation to Irish tenant farmers under certain conditions, came again under consideration in the House of Commons last night. The amendment which was adopted on Saturday, fixing the conditions upon which the landlords would he required to make compensation, was, after further discussion, negatived, and the Bill was finally passed through committee. MANILLA, July 19. EarthquakeAn earthquake which took place here has caused great damage. CALCUTTA, July 20. Afghan Affairs. The troops which wore reported as having deserted at Girishk partly consisted of Ayoub Khan’s cavalry. MONTREAL, July 20.
