To Cvrs A Ham.— An excellent old family recipe: Let ilb. of common gait lie on the ham four days ; take lib. bay salt, loz. blaok .pepper, 2oz. of saltpetre, and 11b. of treacle ; mix and spread on every part of the ham without rubbing it; baste it often, and turn t once a week. Let it remain in pickle a month ; hang it up to dry for two or three -days, and then smoko it. When used it should bo soaked in cold water from twelve to twenty-four hours, according to the size and •ge. When boiled let it remain in the water till cold. Hams should not bo used till at least eight months after smoking, and done by this recipe, will bo good for two years. “ When I was your age,” said old Mr Tret, “I rose with the lark.” “I beat you clear ■out of sight, then," said Tom, wearily and triumphantly, “ I have been up all night with him.” A country newspaper out West thus heads its report of a fire : —“ Feast of the Fire Fiend —The Fork-Tongued Demon Licks with its Lurid Breath a Lumber Pile !—Are the Scenes of Boston to be Eopeated ?—Loss 150 doll.” —“Puck.”
