BINGSLAND Y, SOUTHERN. The return match between these clubs was played on Saturday last, on the ground of the latter, and resulted in a win for the Southern team by one touch-down to nil. D. Taylor, for the Bingsland, kicked off at 3 sharp, tho ball being well returned by tho Southern backs. The Bingsland forwards then rushed tho ball well up to tho Southern’s goal line, where J. Braithwaite, for Bingsland, made a splendid kick for the goal, but it was a little too wide. J, Owens, for the Southern, brought the ball out, and the Southern forwards, playing well together and passing the ball back, got it over the goal lino and forced the Bingsland to touch-down in self-defence. In the second spell the ball was kicked off by Williams for the Southern, and was well returned. W. Ogier, Southern, got the ball and made a splendid run, passing all the Bingsland forwards, and got within ten yards of the Bingsland goal line, and was pushed over the touch-line by Cooke. The ball was thrown out, and Petrie for the Southern made a good run across the field. The Southern forwards, who were playing well, got the ball over tho Bingsland goal line, and H. Ogier scored the first and only touchdown. Williams took the try, which was a failure. The third spell was a series of scrimmages, in which Q. Cooke and T. Smith for the Southern, and I. Cooke and Braithwaite for Bingsland, played well. In the fourth spell the Bingsland forwards played well on the ball, rushed it over the Southern’s goal line, and forced them to touch-down in self-defence. Owens brought the ball out, and with a good drop kick sent it well into the Bingland quarters, where it was pretty well kept for the rest of the play. For Bingsland, D. Taylor, Cusack, and Braithwaite forwards, and Stapleton, back, played well. For the Southerns, T. Fleming, Williams, W. Petrie, H. Ogier, G. Cook, forwards, and Atkinson and Lawrence as quarterbacks were moat conspicuous. A match between the Eastern anl North Canterbury Football Clubs was played on tho ground of tho latter, at Rangiora, on Saturday. During the day there was some very fair play shown, but the home team were somewhat lighter than their opponents. The Easterns obtained two tries at a goal, which gave them a right to claim having won tho match.
