[PBE3S ASSOCIATION. | AUCKLAND, July 19. FireThe Wade Hotel, owned by Maurice Kelly, waa totally destroyed by fire on Sunday morning. No conjecture can be made as to the cause of the fire. Tha hotel end stock were only partially insured. Found Drowned. The body of a man was found drowned in Slippery Creek, near Drury, yesterday. The body has not been identified. Mr Habens in the NorthThe Rev. Mr Habens, Inspector General of Schools, is now in Auckland, as commissioner, to inquire into the management of the Howe street Industrial Home. He is also about to conduct an inquiry relative to tha complaints against the management of the Kahimarama Training School. GRAHAMSTOWN, July 19. Sunday School Centenary. The Sunday School Centenary celebration services were held yesterday. There was a large attendance of children at every service. The Rev. Mr Bates, of Auckland, conducted the aiternoon services at St. George’s Church. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 19. The Waimate Plains—Another CrisisOn Saturday the Natives mustered in force, and began fencing across the road the constabulary are making near Parihaka. They are headed by a well known fighting chier, known as Te Whetu. Colonel Roberts remonstrated with them, when the Natives replied that they intended to fence, and if the constabulary pulled down the fence, the Maoris would retaliate by cutting down the telegraph poles. Colonel Roberts telegraphed to Wellington to ascertain if he should take the Maoris prisoners. The Government has replied, and a mounted messenger was sent on to the camp early this morning with a telegram. The result is not known, but it is thought that tha Natives will be arrested. AUCKLAND, July 18. Death of a RacehorseMr S. 0. Caulton’s racehorse Tregeagle has died of glanders. He was not very successful on the turf, and latterly had been used for stud purposes. The editor of the “Free Lance" in to-day’s issue gives an emphatic denial to the statement telegraphed South, that a member of the Froliquea had called at his office and pulled his nose on account of editorial strictures. The Treaty of WaitangiMessrs Buchanan have just completed an obelisk made by them to tha order of tha local Natives of Pahi, Bay of Islands, as a memorial of the signing of the treaty at Waitangi. At the base of tha pedestal there will be four tablets giving the text of the treaty. The base is Bft high, and the obelisk, with tha names, rises Oft, making a total height of 17ft. It is made of Oamaru atone. The order was given to the firm by the Natives who have already built a hall in honor of the event so momentous in the history of the colouy. Supposed Foundering ot a Cutter. The cutter Three Brother?, which left Barrier on July 2nd, has not since been heard of, and it is feared that she has foundered. The dingy on board was picked up on Waikura Beach on the following Monday, but since then nothing further has been ascertained. Captain Blair, tha owner, was on board, also two foreigners. NAPIER, July 18. Ejecting NativesMr Birch, sheriff for the province, went to Mr Harding’s property at Mount Vernon yesterday to interview the Natives who have refused to give up possession in spite of the order of the Supreme Court. He went to serve a writ of ejectment, taking a bailiff and constables with him. The Natives took the proceedings in good part, but pressed for delay. This Mr Birch refused and said ho must leave a man in possession, but subsequently ho agreed to wait till Monday, when Henara Mataua will arrive. County Councils and Road Boards. At the annual meeting of the ratepayers in several of the road districts in Hawke’s Bay, the question of local government has been discussed, and at each place where the subject has been broached the opinion was in favor of Road Boards as opposed to the County Council system.
