ROUGH ON THE LAWYER.

An amusing incident is said to have occurred in the Supreme Court, Wanganui, the other day. A little girl was being asked how far off she was was from the accused when a robbery was being perpetrated. Not being a good judge of distances, the little girl could not say. The prosecuting counsel (states the “ Fielding Guardian”) then began to enquire was she as far off as the judge ? As from the reporters’ tablei? As from the crier of the Court? As from the jury? &a., &o. The witness could not make up her mind as to the exact distance correspondirg with those given her as comparisons. At last last a happy thought struck her, and she told her anxious enquirer, ' ‘I was about as far off the man who was robbing as I am from that old woman over there,” pointing her finger at the person she meant. A titter ran through the Court on it being discovered the “ old woman ” in question was a youthful barrister who had just made his bow to the Supremo Court, and was arrayed in all the glory of wig and gown.
