CHRISTCHURCH HEBREW SCHOOL.
The annual examination of the pupils attending the Christchurch Hebrew School was held at the Synagogue Chambers on Sunday, the 27th ultimo. The children were examined in general Hebrew by Messrs 0. J. Levien, 0. Louisson, and S. Phillips. The distribution of prizes took place at a social gathering held on Wednesday evening, when a large number of the pupils, together with their parents and friends, were present. After the children were regaled with a substantial tea, provided and presided over by the ladies of the congregation, Mr Caro, the president, presented the prizes, delivering a most appropriate address to each recipient. The following is the list of prizetakers : —Class I.A —Ist prizs, Joseph Zaohariah. Class I.—let prize, Fred. Raphael; 2nd do, Edward Nathan; 3rd do, Benjamin Metz. Class ll.—lst prize, Joseph Hyam Nathan. Class lll.—lst prize, Ernest Nathan; 2nd do, Alfred Caro. Class IV.—lst prize, Charles Nathan. Class V.A—lst prize, Kate Raphael. Class V.b Raphael. Good conduct prizes—Alfred Caro ana Bessie Simpson. Best attendance prizes —Kate Simpson. Best progress prize—Kate Raphael. After the prizes had been delivered Mr Caro proposed a vote of thanks to the examiners for the trouble they had taken with the children, which was passed with great applause. Mr Louisson replied on behalf of the examiners. The young children were then delighted by prizes distributed from a cornucopia, and provided by the ladies. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and before closing the entertainment Mr Sandstein proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs D. Oaro and the ladies who had so kindly provided the treat, this being carried unanimously.
