THE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
A meeting of the committee of the above was held last night. Present—Messrs Allan (chairman), Hulbert, Hull, England, Jameson, Howland, Wood, Jenkins, Draper. The chairman said, as would be seen, single fares had been granted by the Eailway department. A letter was read from Meßsrs Montgomery and Co. offering the loan of the timber necessary for the fittings gratuitously. It was resolved that the offer be received with thanks. A memo., relativo to the space necessary for the looms, &c, in connection with the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, was handed to the machinery committee. A letter was read from Mr J. E. March, accepting the offer of the committee to allow the children of the Orphanage to attend free of oharge with thanks. A letter was read from Mr Curnow of the East Chmtchurch school, stating that the school would avail themselves of the reduction in the price of admission for school children. It was resolved that in case of schools the secretary should communicate with the maeters and issue them passes to admit their children, the payment being made by the school in a lump sum. Mr England brought under the notice of the committee an application from Mr Button to exhibit specimens of graining, which had been forgotten. It was resolved that no further applications for space should be considered until the last day, when any space available will be allotted to late exhibitors. In reply to Mr Howland, the chairman said that the carriages would be plaoed in an extension of the gun shed, which the committee intended to carry out. It was resolved that the machinery and space committee should meet at 3.30 p.m. the next day, at the Drillshed. Mr Howland was added to the space committee. It was resolved to allocate the duties of decorating and covering the walls to the space and machinery committee. On the motion of Mr Jenkins, it was resolved to engage the services of a band at the opening of tho Exhibition. It waa resolved that a list of the names of tho exhibitors and articles exhibited be printed for sale at a nominal cost. It was agreed that the whole matter of refreshments be left in tho hacdß of the refreshment committee to arrange On the motion of Mr Hull, it was resolved that application be made to Superintendent Broham to make what police arrangements ho may consider necessary. The illumination of the ground was referred to tho space committee. The meeting then adjourned until Monday next, at 7.30 p.m.
