INVERCARGILL, July 3. The Charge against Dr. Moffat. An inquest is proceeding re an extraordinary case at Winton. A woman named Cameron died in childbirth, through the apparent neglect of Dr. Moffat, who ran away from the one after partially effecting delivery, although implored by both man and wife to stay. The medical evidence is inconclusive, and the case is adjourned for a second post-mortem and other practitioners. ClosedThe Working Men’s Club hn closed for financial reasons. The Orepuki Coal Mine. The Orepuki Coal Company have forwarded to the Melbourne Exhibition a column of shale the full thickness of the seam, viz., soma five or six feet. The seam descends through the coal at an angle of forty-five degrees to unknown depths. The company have sunk into the coal seam about eighteen feet, and have not yet passed through it. WELLINGTON, July 2, Supposed Loss of the Poneke. The topsail schooner Poneke, which was off Greymouth ;bar on the 18th inst., has not been heard of since, and is supposed to be lost. She left Manukau for Greymouth, to load coal for Napier, but finding the bar in a bad state the captain intimated his intention of proceeding to Picton. A heavy gale sprang up the same evening, and it is supposed that the vessel capsized or foundered. The crew consisted of Jas. Lee, captain, and five seamen. She is owned by Messrs Waddel, McLeod and Weir, of Wellington, and is insured for £IOOO in the South British, of which £666 13s 4d is re-insured in the Victoria and Colonial offices. The Unemployed.
