LYTTELTON HARBOR BOARD.

This Board held a meeting in the offices, Hereford street, yesterday at the usual hour, and on the motion of I Mr Turner the chair was taken by Mr B. J. S. Harman, in the absence of the Hon. Mr Richardson, chairman of the Board. The usual statement was read touching on matters to come under consideration, and a report of the progress of the work being undertaken. A legal opinion was read from Messrs Harper, Harper and Scott as to the power of the Lyttelton Borough Council to rate the sheds on the Gladstone Pier, that question having been raised at the previous meeting. The opinion given was to the effect that the Board wore not liable for the rates claimed, and it was resolved that the Borough solicitor be written to accordingly. The question of enlarging the dock extra 50ft. was also discussed, and referred to the harbor improvement committee, to report at the next meeting, which will bo held a fortnight hence. Notices of motion were given in reference to the proposed reduction of pilotage' and the disposal of ballast, and accounts to the amount of £4OOO were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
