GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The feature of most interest to farmers and merchants during the week has been the arrival at Loudon of the first fleet of grain ships from Lyttelton, and the probable prices at which their cargoes will be sold. "Unfortunately the advices of the state of the markets there sure anything but favourable ; and it is tolerably certain that shippers will have to be content with several shillings per quarter less than they expected when making shipments. Doubtless in the course of a few days we will leatn what opinion the habitues of Mark Lane have of our wheat. In the local market business has been quiet. Wheat is a trifle weaker, and some difficulty ia now found in obtaining 3s 6d bids for best samples of milling wheat. Inferior samples are offering freely, and sales have been made with difficulty, as there is bat a limited cutlet for this class of wheat. Flour continues in fair demand at .£lO for town brands. Outside country brands are offering at lower rates, but we have not hoard of any transactions. Oats are in rather better inquiry for choice heavy milling, but prices still remain at Is 3d to Is 4d. Feed descriptions are neglected, as consumers prefer to pay a trifle more and use the best qualities. Barley values are purely nominal, Potatoes are in somewhat better demand and sales have been effected with less difficulty at 22s 6d. Most holders having them in the pita are unwilling to accept this rate, but those who have not are invariably selling in preference to incurring any unnecessary charges on them. Dairy produce remains as last quoted, say, butter lOd and cheese 4d. Dams and baconmeet a limited trade inquiry at SJd.
