PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Pharmaceutical Soiiety was held yesterday evening ia the Commercial Hotel, at 83d o’clock. There was a good attendance of members, Mr J. V. Ross being elected Jto the chair. Mr M. M. Irving, hon. secretary, expressed the great satisfaction he felt at being present on the occasion of the first annual meeting of the society, and proceeded to speak of the spread of snch associations in various parts of the colonies of Australasia, after which he made special reference to the introduction of the Pharmacy Bill into the House of Representatives during the present session of Parliament. Ho commented on its clauses, and pointed out the efficacy of the measure as one which would protect the interests of the trade and the public generally. In conclusion, he informed the meeting that the Pharmacy Bill had passed its second reading. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, the result being as follows :—Mr Ross was appointed vice-presi-dent for Canterbury ; Mr Bonnington, secretary ; Messrs Wright, Parsons, and Douglas members of the Local Board. A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mr J. A. Aden, of Wellington, secretary to the society, and a vote of thanks to the chairman conolucted the proceedings.
