FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ ASSOCIATION.

A conference of delegatee from tho various friendly societies was held at the Foresters’ Hall last evening. Mr T. Kent occupied the chair, and delegates were present from City of Christchurch Lodge (M.U.), Avon and Addington Lodges (A. 0.) Court Star of Canterbury, Thistle of Forest (A.0.F.), Mistletoe Lodge (Druids), Star of Waltham Lodge (M.U.), Philipstown Lodge (M.U.), Sydenham Lodge (Druids), City of Norwich Lodge, Perseverance Lodge Woolstou, Volunteer Lodge (M.U.), Court Queen of the Isles (A.0.F.), Hope of St. Albans (Druids). Mr T. Gapes moved—“ That it is expedient to form a Friendly Societies Association for Canterbury.” Mr O. Samuels seconded the motion. Mr Hart moved as an amendment—- “ That it is expedient to form an association, to be called the Friendly Societies Association of Canterbury, and that a sub-committee be formed, comprising two representatives from each order having delegates at this meeting, to bring up a draft of the proposed constitution and by-laws of such association. Such report to be made at a meeting to be convened for that purpose.” Mr Hirst seconded the amendment. Mr Gapes withdrew his motion in favor of Mr Hart’s amendment, which was put and carried unanimously. The following were appointed—--1.0.0. F., A. 0., Messrs Hart and Lezard ; Manchester Unity, Messrs Parry and Borland ; A. 0.F., Messrs Gapes and Buckley; A.O. Druids, Messrs Nathan and Hurst. Mr Hart then moved—“ That it be an instruction to the sub-committee that the executive of the proposed association should consist of a president, vice-president, eeoretery, treasurer, and committee of eight; the officers being also members of committee ex officio; the election of the eight members to be so arranged as to include on tho committee representatives of all the orders joining the Association.” Mr Hubbard seconded the motion, which was agreed to. It was resolved to adjourn for a month.
