A meeting of the Licensed Victuallers reBolved to ask the Government if the Commissioners are acting from instructions received or on their own responsibility in reference t j the notices sent to the licensees of wooden hotels, about refusing the licenses unless the houses were built of briok, stone, or concrete. Also, a memorial was forwarded to the Government, drawing attention to the excessive powers of the Licensing Commissioners and the recant arbitrary powers exercised in this district, and asking for a right to appeal to a higher Court in cases where applications for renewals were refused. WELLINGTON, Juno 24. The Licensing BillA deputation from the Licensed Victuallers' Conference waited on the Government this morning with suggested amendments to the Licensing Bill. The reply received was that the matter would be considered. AUCKLAND, June 23. Investment and Building Society. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Co-operative Permanent Investment and Building Society, the report showed that the total yearly receipts were £70,947; cash in bank, £10,046; net profit, £6583; balance available for bonus, £2980 ; investors' interest, 8 per cent.
