PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.

[By Tblbgbaph.] [fEOM OTJB OWK CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, June 23. MrMacandrew did not speak this afternoon as expected, but the " Chronicle," the Opposition organ, taking for granted that he would, came out this evening with a glaring account of his imaginary speech. It stated that, although sot brilliant, it bristled with hard facts and figures most damaging to the Government, and so forth, and this caused a good deal of merriment to-night. Mr Macandrew was much offended about his great speech. The No-oonfidence debate this evening dragged terribly. Messrs Thomson and Turnbull made long and dreary speeches on the Opposition side, and the House was very thin, owiDg to a ball being given by Lady Robinson at Government House. Mr Whitaker proposed the adjournment of the debate at 8.30 p.m., and Mr Macandrew supported it, but Major Harris opposed it, and Mr Turnbull stopped all chance of adjournment by rising promptly and continuing to speak to the main question, after bitterly denouncing the proposal to adjourn merely in order that Ministers and their friends might dance attendance in ladies' chambers. I understand that Mr Shephard follows Mr Turnbull. It is now believed that the division will not take place before Friday, if then. The Government expect a majority of ten or twelve ; the Opposition give them six or eight.
