During the debate on the Reform Bill, Mr Longmore described the Bill as political wickedness, Mr Clark as a renegade, and Mr Francis as an arch-renegade. Foley, a larrikin who deliberately assaulted a Chinaman, has been remanded, as his victim is incapable of appearing. The action Paternoster versus the exDirectors of the late Provincial and Suburban Bank, for inducing the plaintiff to take shares under a misrepresentation of the condition of the bank’s affairs, resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff for £230. It is anticipated that several similar actions will be brought. Attention has been called in the Legislative Council to Major Smith’s proceedings in disposing of his house property at Ballarat by art union. NEW SOUTH W4LES. Five thousand seven hundred and thirtyone immigrants arrived in the colony during 1879. The butchers at a meeting resolved to close on Sundays. The steamer Woniora, from Bull! to Sydney, went ashore on June Bth on Bondi beach, a few miles south of Port Jackson. She got off early next morning uninjured. Mr Qarratt addressed his constituents at Camden on June Bth. He repeated his arguments to the effect that minorities had no right to representation, and was much applauded. The Licensing Bench again dealt exclusively with new applicants and transfers of publicans’ licenses. The subject occasioned some sharp discussion in tho Assembly, especially relative to the propriety of magistrates mounting the Bench to give effect to foregone conclusions.
