Messrs Money Wigram and Sons’ splendid steamship Norfolk was signalled at Port when our express loft to-day. She left Plymouth with between three and four hundred passengers on April 19th, so that to-day makes her fifty-four days out. It is said that her stay at Lyttelton will not probably exceed forty-eight hours, that bsing sufficient to admit of her discharging, and to enter and clear out. Her cargo for here does not exceed 100 tone, besides which she has some for Wellington, whither she proceeds from Lyttelton. The bulk of her cargo is for Sydney, to which port she will go direct from Wellington. After discharging there it is the intention of her owners to send her on to Hong Kong to load with new season’s teas for home. The steamer under notice is not, as has been supposed by some, the well known old Australian trader of the same name, and belonging to the same owners. As will be gleaned from the following, she is a full-powered, magnificent boat, and is now on but her second voyage. The Norfolk was built by Green and Co., Blackwall, from whose yards she was launched last Juno, and showed a speed of fifteen knots on her trial trip last September. Her maiden voyage from London to Melbourne was accompli shod in f erty-ono day s six hours actual steaming time. Her dimensions are —Length, 332 ft 6m ; beam, -40 ft tin; depth of hold. 32£t 9in; gross register, 3196 tona ; net register, 2227 tons, about 500 tons more than that of the Stad Haarlam. She is flnsh decked, and barque rigged. The engines have four cylinders—two high and two low pressure—and they indicate 3000 horse power. The bunkers at the sides of the engine and boiler rooms have a capacity of 1350 tons of coal. There is ample accommodation of a very superior order for all classes of passengers, the main saloon being 110 feet in length, and having a breadth of 18ft inside the state rooms. The New Zealand Shipping Company are bar agents. It is probable the steamer will he berthed at high water to**lt is proposed to bring the Norfolk to a berth at the pier to-night, she having signalled all well on hoard.
