[retjter’s telegrams.] LONDON, June 1. The Markets. Consols are at 98? ex div. New Zealand securities, Australian and Now Zealand breadstuffs, and Australian tallow are unchanged. At the wool sale to-day 11,800 bales were offered, making a total of 336,200 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale was steadier. Cyprus and Asia MinorLONDON, June 2. During last night’s sitting of the House of Commons, a question was put to the Premier with the object of ascertaining what steps the Government had decided to take in regard to the AngloTurkish Convention of 1878, by which the Island of Cyprus was assigned to Great Britain, and Asia Minor was placed under British protection. Mr Gladstone, in reply, said his Government intended to entrust the Colonial Office with the administration of Cyprus, and the same department would see that the necessary reforms in Asiatic Turkey were vigorously prosecuted in accordance with the terms of the convention. The Rebellion in Burmakin view of the rebellion which has broken out in Bnrmah, four companies of British regiments, stationed at Rangoon, have been ordered to the frontier of the English territory to protect the lives and properties of the residents should they be in danger. The match between the Australians and eighteen gentlemen players of Keighley, Yorkshire, was commenced today, The weather was showery during the day. The home team went in first and were disposed of for 102 runs. The Australians then went in, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had scored 56 runs for the loss of five wickets.
