AN EMIGRANT FROM THAMES.
i The following letters appeared in this morning’s issue of the “ Press " ; ] HON. JOHN HALL RE AKAROA j POST OFFICE. I TO THE BDITOE OP THE PBES3. ( SlB, —Idid not see Mr Montgomery’s loiter , until I was on the point of leaving Christchurch, and could not then reply to it. I did not say at Leeston that Mr Montgomery had made an application to me, about the Akaroa Poet Office, of the personal or private character which his letter disclaims ; but simply that he applied to me for a now building. His application was addressed in the House to myself as Postmaster General, and no report of my speech that I have seen conveys a different impression. I am assured by a gentleman who was present that certainly no such impression was conveyed to the meeting by my remarks. Yours, &0., John Ham, Wellington, May 24th, 1880.
