MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

A meeting of the local committee of the Melbourne Exhibition was held yesterday, at 2.30 p.m. Present —Messrs G. G. Stead, R. Allan, L. E, Nathan, and Hon. J. T, Peacock. Mr G. G. Stead occupied the chair. The secretary read a telegram from the secretary if the central Commission, stating that the return exhibits from Sydney were expected to reach here by the s.s. Wakatipu. A letter was read from Mr Stedman, registrar of the Canterbury College, stating that the exhibits sent by the College to Sydney would be forwarded t« Melbourne, and arranged by Dr. Hector and his assistants. A letter was read from the secretary of the Central Commission, stating that the sub j act of the desirability of extending the time for the reception of exhibits of a perishable nature would be brought under the notice of Dr. Hector immediately on his return from Melbourne. The secretary reported the following additional applications for space:—Cheese, J. Goodwin, Pigeon Bay ; grain, seeds, pearl barley, &e., B. H. Banks; cheese, J. A. Graham, Sumner ; table covers, fringes, &0., B. Potts, Governor’s Bay ; bone dust manure, D. Maydwell j rope and twines, C. Chiunery, Rangiora; preserved meats, B. M. Mein ; water color views Akaroa harbor, Thomas Cane. Mr Nathan reported that Suckling Brothers intended to endeavor to prepare an exhibit of boots, &c. It was resolved to put an advertisement in drawing the attention of exhibitors of art specimens to the sub-section under clause 11, relative to the restriction to New Zealand scenery, &o.
