Johanna Mahoney, drunk and disorderly, fined 20>, and cab hire Is 6d. Obtaining Goodb on False Pbbtbncbs. George Gustav Schmidt was again brought up, having been remanded on the 18th inst. John A. Hausmann, hotel-keeper, Addington, called by accused, said—The accused was lodging at my house in February. He described himself as being a farmer, living at Waimate. I believed his statement. One evening, while witness was in conversation with Mr Grossmann, accußed came into tne room, and witness said to Mr Grossmann, «* Here is another German ; a farmer irom Waimate." I know nothing of the sale of iewellery Vy Grossmann to accused. A few days afterwards I received a present from accused—a ring. To accused—You told everybodv in the house you had land m Waimate. You did not say you were a farmer. I never said to Grossmann you were all right." I did not, on any occasion, vouch for you. Four other witnesses were put in the box, but knew nothing of any business transaotions between Grosamann and tae accused. The evidence in the case being read over, accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the next sessions of the Supreme Court.
