Elf King is now the property of Mr Crawfurd, who purchased the horse from Joseph Dawson prior to his figuring in the Lincolnshire Handicap. Lincolnshire Handicap Time. The time occupied by Eosy Cross in winning the Lincolnshire Handicap, eb taken by Benson’s chronograph, was Imin. 47aeo. Last year the race was run in Imin. 52aeo. Liverpool Grand National Time.—The time occupied by Empress in winning this race was lOmin. 295e0., while Liberator’s record last year was lOmin. 12seo. Mr Eymill, wo hear, won close upon £IO,OOO by the success of Eosy Cross in the Lincolnshire Handicap, and Sammy Mordan, who rode the mare, stood a “ monkey ” to nothing. The annual billiard contests between representative players of Oxford and Cambridge took place last month. The double-handed game on the first night was well patronised ; but the single-handed contest was witnessed by very few persons. It will be seen that Oxford won very easily on both occasions. Cambridge beat Oxford by three goals to one in tho annual inter-IJniversity football match at Kennington. An exchange tells of a young lady who, in writing to a confidential friend, stated that she was not engaged, bat that she saw a cloud above tho horizon about as large as a man’s hand. We heard of tho cheeky chap who went into an umbrella store to borrow shelter during a rain storm, but what strikes us as tho ne plus ultra of magnificent choekiness comes from Mobile, where the story goes, a young lady, who after refusing the invitation of a gentleman to attend the theatre with him, coolly borrowed his opera glasses to go with some other fellow.
