OHRI9TOHUROH. Fbiday, Max 14. [Before G. L. Mellieh, E?q, R.M.] Habituai Dbttnkenness awd Cbttelty.— Thomas Morgan was charged with the above offences. Mr Izird appeared for the alefence. Mary Morgan deposed to repeated acts of gross cruelty. On a recent occasion the accused tried to hang her with a strap, and also took up the carving knife to stab her. This has occurred on more than one occasion. Mr Izard asked accused if he would take the pledge. Accused said bis wife was beating one of the children. He had previously advertised that he would not be responsible for her debts. She lent £l4 to her relatives, and nearly ruined him. The son deposed that his father threatened to kill him and kick ont the mother. He broke all the things on the mantelpiece. Mr Izird said accused was not an habitual drunkard. Some recrimination took place between the parties. Adjourned till this day week to take pledge, &c.
