FJowerday. for Wellington and West Coast. Eoyso, Stead, and Co , agents. The brigantine Lapwing, Captain Pa,concr, arrived yesterday from Newcastle, coal laden. She left there on the 24th nit , and made Farewell on the Cch current : cleared the Straits on Saturday, and fell in with the N.W. gale on Sunday, carrying it to port. ' Tbo'bu-que Waratah, in command of Captain W. H. McArthur, arrived yesterday from Hobart Town, with timber and palings. She left there on the 2!)tli, nit., and passed the Snares last Thursday in a hard S.W. gale, followed next day by light northerly airs; passed Cape Saunders on Friday, and was abreast of Akaroa Heads on Sunday morning. Thera fell in with heavy N.N.W. squalls, which split a jib and mainsail. Made the port at midnight. On March 11th Messrs W. Bonny and Brothers launched from their shipbuilding yard, at Bumbarton, an iron screw steamer for the Otago Towing Company of New Zealand, of moulded dimension 90ft. by 18ft., by Bft. Gin , and of about 95 tons gi’oss. She will bo fitted by Messrs Denny and Co. with a_ pair of compound surface-condensing screav-engines, having cylinders of 17in., and 30in. diameter, with a stroke of 24in. She has been built specially for the purposes of towing, and is fitted with a bow rudder, so as to enable her to turn more rapidly foing astern. She as ill be masted and spai'red for the voyage cut to New Zealand, which will be made under canvas. As the little steamer left the ways she was named the Plucky by Miss Caroline Denny, daughter of Mr W. Denny, of Bt-Ufield. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, May 10.
