FOOTBALL.

A match was played on Cranmer square on Saturday afternoon, between a picked fifteen and the rest of the members of the 0.F.0. The Club had a strong muster, while their opponents had to start play with thirteen men. The match throughout was rather one sided, the players in the blue uniform (Club side) haying things pretty much their own way. At the close of the first half of the game the blues had secured three touch-downs, but in each instance the try at goal wai fruitless. In the early part of the second spell there was some capital allround play shown on both sides, the Fifteen especially working hard and well together. Gradually, however, the blues again got the best of it, and finally succeeded in further adding to their score by a couple of goals, one of which was a gift from the opposite side, the ball being thrown back by one of the Fifteen into Million's hands, who happened to be just in front of the goal post, and quietly dropped the ball over the cross-bar. For the Club, Millton (captain), Beswiok, Boyes, Elmore, and Lawson played particularly well, while on the Fifteen side Lewin, Field, Bolton, Potts, and Eedmain were amongst the most prominent players, and did a lot of hard and useful work ; but generally speaking the play all round was not so good as is usually shown by a picked fifteen, the back play especially being rather below the average. The match of the Eastern Club, played on Saturday (West v East Colombo street), resulted in favor of the former. In the first spell the West gained three tries, one of which was converted into a goal by Atack. In the second spell the East managed _to secure four tries, one of which, on being punted out, Mountfort got and dropped a well judged goal. When time was called the game stood—West, one goal and two tries ; East, one goal and three tries. For the former, Fisher secured two and Stringer one try, and for the latter, Wilkinson, Parsons, Hyman, and Mountfort secured a try each.
