CHRISTCHURCH BOWLING CLUB.
The members of the above club met on Saturday afternoon for the closing game of the season, when there was a very large attendance. The green, it may be noticed in pasting, despite the lateness of the season, is in splendid order, the number of shrubs, flowers, &0., planted round having a very pretty effect.
After several games had been played, an adjournment was made to the pavilion for the purpose of a presentation to Mr Neil Black, the secretary of the club, as a slight token of the esteem of the members, and in recognition of the many services rendered by Mr Black to the club since he has held office.
The President, Hon. J. T. Peaoock, said they were doubtless aware of the reason which had called them together that afternoon, which was of a double character —viz., to celebrate the closing of the season, and what was more important still, to present to their secretary, Mr Black, a slight recognition on the part of the members of his manifold services to the club while in office. [Applause.] Mr Black had worked most zealously to promote not only the interests of the game, but also the comfort and convenience of members (cheers), and he had now very much pleasure, on behalf of the Ohristchurch Bowling Club, in requesting his acceptance of a pair of silver mounted bowls, bearing the following inscription : " To Noil Black, Esq., from the Ohristchurch Bowling Club ; May Ist, 1880." [Cheers.] He trusted Mr Black would live lons, and that ho would enjoy many cames with the bowls he now handed him. [Cheers]. Mr Black's health having been duly honored in mountain dew, that gentleman said that he thanked them most heartily for this mark of their esteem. He could assure them that what he had done had been a labor of love, and the recognition of his small efforts which they had that day made him would be preserved by him as a heirloom. [Cheers.] Mr Ollivier proposed the health of "Mr Wynn Williams," whose efforts in connection with the club it was impossible too highly to eulogise. This toast was duly honored, and Mr J. A. Bird responded. The health of the " President," Hon. J. T. Peacock, having been drunk enthuoiasti- i cally, the proceedings terminated.
