Dench, Port Chalmers, on Saturday morning, totally destroyed the building and furniture, the inmates having a narrow escape. The Waimate PlainsThe statement which has found publication that Mr Parris has threatened to employ the Constabulary to remove forcibly the Maoris who erected whares on the land outside the reserves is not correct. The latest telegrams received by the Government are that Major Goring, with 200 Armed Constabulary, marched yesterday afternoon to the new camping ground at Opua, which is well on Te Whiti's sacred territory, being about a mile north of Wairoa and four miles from Opunake. The remainder of the Oeo contingent of the Armed Constabulary and unemployed will join the advanced body at Opua when the Oeo portion of the road is completed. In view of the fact that this last movement is a critical one in the event of any resistance being intended by Te Whiti or Tohu, Mr Bryce did not come on to Wellington this morning by the Hinemoa, which brought'Mr Whitaker, but landed at New Plymouth and proceeded to-day to the constabulary camp, at Stony Biver, where he will Btay for a day or two, in order to be at hand should his presence be desirable.
