The following further additional appointments to the new Ministry have been announced :—Sir William Vernon Harcourt becomes Secretary of State for the Home Department, the Duke of Argyle fills the position of Lord President of the Mr G J. Geschen and Lord Rosebery were offered, but declined, portfolios in the new Ministry. Mr Gladstone experiences a difficulty in the formation of the new Ministry owing to some prominent Radicals having claimed portfolios. CALCUTTA, April 27. The Afghan. War. Latest news from Afghanistan announces further fighting at Ghuznee. The hostile tribes were again assuming a threatening aspect, and General Stewar consequently attacked and dislodged them from the heights surrounding Ghuznee. The enemy have retreated to the mountainous country beyond the city. Intelligence has also been received of the resumption of hostilities at Cabul. The Afghans attacked Generals Jenkins and Macpherson at Charasiab, but, after heavy fighting, were repulsed with severe loss. The British loss during the action was trifling. The Markets. Adelaide flour, per 2801 b., ex warehouse, 38s. At the wool sales to-day 9300 bales were catalogued, making a total of 51,000 bales since the opening. Prices were firmly maintained. Pig iron is quoted at 545, in consequence of the depressed state of trade.
