AVON ROAD BOARD.
The usual meeting of the above Board was held on April 19th, Present—The chairman and all the members. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of works were read and considered. Mr Preston interviewed the Beard relative to the insufficient size of the culvert on the North road to take storm water. He was informed that the culvert was considered large enough for the requirements for drainage of the road. The clerk was instructed to write to the contractor for the olearing of Styx river, informing him that unless the river was kept clear according to specification his contract would be cancelled, and fresh tenders invited for the work, Messrs Barlow and Horner saw the Board relative to tho pipes under Bligh’s road being insufficient to take the storm water. The
surveyor was instructed to invito tenders for erecting a 20ft. timber bridge, also tenders for re-forming roads in part of the Papanui village. Messrs Johns and Fantham interviewed the Board, and asked to have the road damaged by the fresh near Stewart’s gully repaired, and offered to find labor in equal amount to that employed by the Board. A letter was received from the Drainage Board, granting permission to the Board to fill in the drain on the Canal reserve road as far as No. 1 drain. The surveyor was instructed to invite tenders for filling in same from Dudley creek to Shirley road. A letter was received from Mr J. Webster, relative to the width of a road laid out by Mr Cameron. The clerk was instructed to reply that the Board cannot see its way to alter their resolution. The clerk was instructed to write to the Drainage Board, informing them of the following resolution of the Board : —“ That this Board is of opinion that the Avon district is entitled to additional representation on the Drainage Board, and that they be requested to take steps to have an additional member given to the district in the Amendment Act to be introduced during the next session of the General Assembly.” Accounts were passed to the amount of £l3B 5s 9d, and ordered to be paid.
