THEATRE ROYAL.
Last evening being the anniversary of Shakspere's birth it was appropriately celebrated at the Theatre Boyal. The first part of the programme comprised the trial scene from " The Merchant of Venice," in which Mr Hoskins appeared as Shylock, and Miss Oolville as Portia. This was followed by a very eloquent tribute to the memory of the bard, delivered by Mr Hoskins, which was certainly a very great elocutionary treat. The main features in the life of tho poet, with references to his works, aptly illustrated by quotations, were dwelt upon by Mr Hoskins, and after Miss Lizzie Morgan had sung—and that very nicely—- " Where the bee sucks," Mr Hoskins gave ene of his unseen characters of Shakspere, Torick, the King's jester, and retired amid loud plaudits. The burlesque of " 111-treated II Trovatore " concluded the performance. To-night the spectacular drama of " The Sea of Ice " is announced, with a number of scenic effects, &o.
