MR JACKSON'S BEAGLES.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —I think the remarks of your contemporary the " Star," in its issue of the 20th inat., were quite uncalled for. So fur as I can learn, Mr Jackson's application was quite a reasonable one, namely, that should it b<» in the power of the City Council to grant it, a reduction be made in his and similar cases in the usual registration fee for dogs. In England masters of hounds are allowed a concession, and Mr Jackson merely applied for information as to whether the same or any remission might be expected here. The simple answer, Yes, or No, would have been sufficient, without adding a rider to the effect that the Councillors regretted they could not double the fee. That they were ignorant of the subjeot before them is shown by the fact of their not knowing the difference between a beagle and a beetle. It our "city fathers" were to take a run with these little houndß, I think they would be inclined to regret they were unable to reduce the tax placed upon them. Foot beagles should bo encouraged, as they show excellent sport, and no horses being required in the field, they can be followed without the element of danger. As a member of the Hunt, I beg to take this opportunity of thanking owners of property in the neighbourhood of Christchuroh who have kindly allowed us foot people to run over their land, and to assure them that no damage to fences, &c, can possibly take place. It is the duty of every member to see that no gates are left open, and to be careful to avoid offering any annoyance to farmers and others over whose land we run. Yours, &c, PUSS. Christchuroh, April 24th, 1880.
