CONCERT AT SOUTHBRIDGE.
On Tuesday evening, April 20ih (race night) the Southbridge Christy Minstrels ge.ye an entertainment at the Town Hall in aid of the Southbridge Brass Band. The hull was filled to excess, numbers being unable to procure a seat. The first part of the programme consisted of the usual chair melodies and repartee, the songs being very well rendered and the choruses excellent. The corner-men were simply perfect. The second part comprised songs, dances, and a farce, all of which were a credit to the little company At the conclusion of the farce Mr E. Ot. Stavely came forward .and, in a few very appropriate words, presented Mr Montague Selwya Smith (bones), who has been acting as teller of the Bank of New Zealand, Southbridge, for r.bout eighteen mouths,"and who is leaving for Queensland, with a handsome gold chain and pendant, suitably inscribed, us a parting memento from about twenty of hie most intimate Southbridge friends. Mr Smith having acknowledged the souvenir in a humorous speech, the hall was cleared and dancing kept up till daylight.
