PROCEEDINGS OF SYNOD. At yesterday's (Friday's) meeting of the. G?neral Synod, a question arose as to the legality of the proceedings since the session began, in consequence of some irregularity touching the representation of Waiapu. It appeared that Mr Whitefoord, member for that diccese, had telegraphed to the Bishop thereof, intimating the possibility of his being unable to attend the present session, and expressing his willingness to resign if necessary, in order that some person might be elected in his place; and upon this being made known to the Stsi:din_' Committee here, that body appointed Mr C. 0. Bowen member for Waiapu. As events turned out, Mr Whitefoord put in an appearance on the first day, when just the required number were present to form a quor'iin, and tbe question subsequently presented itself, whether i quorum w:is actually present, assuming Mr Whitefoord to have resigned. On this point a discussion took piace yesterday afternoon, the Bishop cf Wniapu submitting that no necessity hud arisen for any action to validate their proceedings, inasmuch as Mr Whitefoord had never sent in his resignation, but simply expressed his willingness to resign, and that therefore ho was btill a member of the Synod.
