ASHBURTON AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the above association was bald yesterday afternoon. Mr W. 0. Walker, president of the association, occupied the chair, and there were about fifty members present. The report and balance sheet were submitted. The report, after referring to the show which had been held and congratulating the association thereon, stated the association had been incorporated under the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Act, and enjoyed all its powers and privileges. Arrangement was come to with the Tinwald Domain by which the association had row ail its land in one block, lying between the Sonthlino and Mount Somers Railway. In addition they bad a site of twenty acres on the North side of the Ashburton. The revival of trade, the successful trip of the Strathleven, the visit of the Lincolnshire delegates, the reaper and binder machine contest, the establishment of a horticultural society, were also referred to, and the secretary, Mr George Jameson, complimented on the energetic manner in which be had interested himself in the business of the association. The b'lanre sheet showed the receipts to have been .£ '.82 7s Id and tho expenditure .£3Bl 10s 9d, .£2ll 11s Id of which had been paid in prizes. The report and balance sheet were then adopted. It was decided to hold the next show at Ashburton, an amendment by Mr Dawson that it bo bold at Tinwald being defeated. Mr dilcocks moved—“ That a club bo formed for tho destruction of sparrows.” After dis cussion the motion was put to the meeting and lost. Mr Silcocks moved another resolution, to the effect that a debating society be formed for discussing agricaltural matters. MrF. Guinness suggested the following addition to the resolution —“That the county should take steps for

forming a library of agricultural works of refererne.” The mover accepted this addition, and ftor a good deal of discussion, in which Mr i lark urged that the meetings should bo held in the afternoon, the motion was put and carried. Mr 0. P. Cox moved—“ That a committee be appointed, consisting of Messrs Carter, Clark Stitt, Jameson, and the mover, for erecting suitable yards on the reserve near Saunders’ mills, and calling for tenders for same. The motion was seconded by Mr G undry, and agreed to.
