VaqeANCY.—Sergeant. Hughes stated that Frank Harris and Elizabeth Sperry, remanded from the previous day on a charge of vagrancy, had left the neighbourhood whore they had been residing, and the charge was accordingly withdrawn. Ellen Boyle, who had also been remanded on a similar charge, was reported as having disappeared, and the information in her case was also dismissed. Local Boabd of Health.—David Thornton was informed against for neglecting to give notice to the Local Board of Health of a ease of typhoid fever which had <o;urredin his house. Mr Cowlishaw appeared on behalf of the Board. Mr Pearce, inspector of nuisances, stated that he visited tho house of the defendant a fortnight since and again on the 10t.h inst. The house and premises were in a very filthy state. On neither occasion did he see any person in charge of the house. No report had been made to the Board of any inmate of the house suffering from infectious disease. Courtney Nodwill, M.D., medical officer to the Board, sworn, stated that in consequence of a report emanating from the hospital authorities that they had received a case of typhoid fever, he visited the house of the defendant. Ho there saw defendant’s daughler, who told him her mother had been attended by a doctor for typhoid fever for three weeks previous to her removal to the hospital. In the absence of the hospital surgeon, and of any testimony to prove that the disease was infectious, the case, on the application of Mr Cowlishaw, was remanded until the following day.
