ACADEMY OF MUSIC.
Palgrave Simpson's play of "Back Sheep" was produced last night at the Academy of Music, and was both acted and put on the stage excellently. As Harriet Routh Miss Adelaide Bowring gave a most powerfully dramatio impersonation of the character. From first to last she identified herself entirely with the character, and more particularly in the scene where she becomes aware of the murder her power of pourtraying suppressed omotion was almoßt painfully realistic. To Bay that the part throughout was played artistically is but faint praise, and Miss Bowring is to be congratulated upon having achieved a success worthy of her high reputation as an actress. Mrs Walter Hill played Mrs Bombridge with her usual care and success, and Miss Hettie Lambrette made a very pretty Clare Carruthers. Mr Burford, though having but littlb to do as Philip Deane, did that well. Mr Clinton, though somewhat heavy in Stewart Boutb, yet gave a very good rendering of the part, and Miss Jennie Nye made up excellently for Jem Swaine. The other parts were well filled, and Mr Willis had some very good Bcenery. To - night " The Merchant of Venice," with Mies Bowring as Portia, will be produced.
