DEATH OF TEMPLETON.

[By Sinbad.T To give a full summary of grand old Templeton's performances would occupy more space than I could well afford, but I condense the following items in memory of the gamest little horse that ever carried a saddle on theNew Zealand turf. He was trcd, it is almost needless to say, in IS7O by Mr Delamain, at Ya'.dhurst, and where by the way he nearly killed that popular sportsman when a youngster. He was by Traducer out of Belle of the Isle, by Malton, out of Spray. He stood about 15.1, and though in every respect a small horse, was a model of compactness and symmetry. His three-year-old performances were not over successful, but i'. must ba remembered that his opponents at this time were of a very high class, amongst them being Lurline, Calumny, Castaway, and Papapa. His first win was in 1574, when ho won the Foibury and Flying Handicaps at the Dunedin meeting. His four-year-old performances were very numerous, his best being winning the Dunedin Cup, DJ.C. Handicap and Town Plate, Auckland Cup and Town Plate, and the Metropolitan and Grand Stand Handicaps at "Christchurch. As a five-year-old his beat performance was winning the Great Autumn Handicap from a field of eight. Asa six year-old he won the North Otago Turf Club Handicap, the Metropolitan Handicap (Christchurch), the Dunedin Cup and D.J.C. Handicap, and, later on in the same year (IS7S), won the Canterbury Cup from six others. After this, though, he eeldom failed to figure prominently in any event in which he wa3 engaged, he scored no win with the exception of the Christchurch Plate, at the last Metropolitan Meeting. Had it not been for the accident which caused his death, it was, I believe, the intention of his owner to put him to the stud at the commencement of ncit season.
