AN ORIGINAL POEM.

Mr G. Willmer, the well-known poet, author of " The Lowing Herd," " All the World's a Bink," &c, &C, some time back indited a poem dedicated to the "Volunteers of New Zealand." Being of opinion that it h very apropos to the present season, ho has shown us the poem, and has permitted us to insert a few of the verses for the benefit of whom it may concern. In the openirgof the poems, Zealandia's sons are invited to seize on their armß, which it is to be presumed are stacked in the vicinity. The poet sajs : "To armß ! To arms ! Zealandia's eons, Our country's cause maintain ; Guard hearths and homes, and fear not guns When booming o'er the main ; To arms, brave sons! sing arms again!'' In the third verse the smileß of sisters and brides are made to cheer the galiant volunteer— "To arms ! To arms! br-.ve brothers arm! Smile sisters and fair brides, And trust a fondest mother's charm. Stand, fathers, by their sides ; Arrest the foes invading strides." The ordinary volunteer having been presumably rendered ecstatically uncorquerable through the medium of the smiles above alluded to, the cavalry is specially addressed as follows: "To arms ! To arms ! upon stout steed, Bide strong, as Britons do! And dare to battle and to bleed, yea, die, if need be, too ; Wield sabres thrusted through and through." Anyone reading the poem through can have but one opinion on the merits of the composition.
