THE MINISTERIAL VISIT TO AUCKLAND.
The Auckland correspondent of the " Otago Daily Times " says that the visit of the Premier, Mr Hall, and of the Hon. Mr Bolleston has given great satisfaction. A large number of vexed questions have been put in process of amicable solution, and a considerable amount of arrears of public business disposed of. Of course both Ministers have been deputationised to death on every imaginable subject, but they bore the infliction with the best grace possible. On one head the deputation were satisfied —namely, that whether their requests were refused or acoeeded to, they would get a straightforward definite answer. It was this heroic treatment which caused the Thames deputation to go quietly back to their homes feeling tolerably satisfied that the Thames railway reclamation swindle is not likely to be projeoted this season. The Wangareites, who desired the Kamo railway carried to deep water, actually thanked Mr Bolleston for his rebuff, and for the information that the colony was much more likely, financially, to get to deep water than the railway. Altogether, the Ministerial visit has been productive of much good—has removed many prejudices which clung to a section of the people who had not released themselves from the political trammels of the previous administration. Some people, indeed, will scarcely believe that the Premier has been here at all, owing to all the " outward and visible signs " being wanting in the shape of the Hinemoa, special trains, carriages and outriders, and all the other paraphernalia which magnifies the office to the populace.
