MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
<s> CHRISTCHUROH. Wedkesday, Mabch 31. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Dbttnk and Dißobdebi,y.—A female, an old offender, was fined 60s. A man was fined 10s. Embezzlement. —Wm. Carl er Webb, who had been arrested the previous day in Lyttelton by detective M. O'Connor, was charged with embezzling £1 17s, the property of the New Zealand Insurance Company at Nelson. He was remanded to Nelson, where the alleged offeree was committed. Labcbnt.—Wm. Cook was charged with stealing £lO from the person of James Smith. On the application of Sergeant Morice the accused waa remanded until Friday, the 2nd instant. Bbeach of the Peace.—Wm. Hyndman waß charged with drunkenness in Cashel Btreet and committing a breach of the peace within view of a constable. The offences were admitted, tird a fine of 20s imposed. KAIAPOI WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
The anniversary services of this school were held in the Church on Edßter Sunday. The sermons, ino-nine and evening, were preached by the Rev. W. H. Beck, to large congregations. On Monday the annual tea meeting wsb held in the schoolroom. Trays were provided by Mesdames Parnham, Q-. Coup, Alexander, Pashby, J. Ward, and Miss Wood, who had a large number of patrons. A public meeting was held afterwards in the church, Mr G-. H. Blackwell in the chair. Addresses were given by the Rots. J. Richardson T. Fee, and by Messrs Connal and Broughton. A voto of thanks, moved by Rev. J. Armitage, to the ladies who provided the tea, speakers and choir, was carried by acclamation. During the evening, and on the previous day, the children and choir sang special hvmtiß for the occasion, under the direction of Mr T. A. Weston. The proceeds of the anniversary amounted to about £25.
